Emerging technologies give us a lot of opportunity when it comes to entertainment and much more than just as a distribution channel. You only have to look at Xtranormal to see some of the potential. This is machinima on steroids and just the beginning really. I can’t wait till Xtranormal is integrated with an real time story engine. That’s what excites me the most but I’m almost as equally excited by the ability to apply split-testing and continuous deployment to story.
To an extent Hollywood has always done some testing. However screenings are done after filming is complete and there is little that can be changed at that point. We can do much better with these new forms of entertainment – continuous deployment and split-testing. However unlike the technology products we’re testing in Silicon Valley, it’ll be a little more difficult breaking story down to actionable items to test. For centuries we’ve broken story into three acts. Others have broken it into sequences. I’m sure we’re about to see an entirely new way.
