Saturday I spent all day in class, Lynda Heys and Steve Turnbul’s Slaying the Dragon Master Class. I had seen them at the Great American Pitchfest and the Screenwriting Expo but that was for only 45 and 90 minutes. Saturday’s class went for 13 hours and I got the feeling that many of us were willing to go more. Pushing past 10 at night and people were still peppering them with questions eager for more. After years of studying screenwriting, reading countless books, and seeing nearly every screenwriting guru the Slaying the Dragon approach still manages to be fresh and unique. I don’t mean to make it out to be the holly grail, but their approach and presentation made years of story knowledge click for me.
Now the real test begins, can I use their teachings and knock out a great screenplay?
